Hi — I’m Lotta.
I’m a medical doctor and PhD student with a camera in my backpack and an almost unhealthy curiosity for the world. I was born and raised in Finland and later moved to Sweden to pursue my medical career. But somewhere along the way, I realized that my life wouldn’t fit into just one box.
While studying medicine full-time, I started traveling to some of the world’s most remote and unconventional places. Not as an escape, but as a way to understand the world, myself, and the people in it. I learned how much I thrive at the intersection of science and uncertainty, structure and chaos.
Medicine, research & curiosity
By training, I’m a doctor and becoming a researcher, currently pursuing a PhD in pancreatic cancer — a field that became deeply personal after losing my father to the disease.
Medicine has taught me discipline, responsibility, and how fragile life really is. It has also shaped how I travel: with respect, humility, and a deep interest in people, cultures, and health systems across the world.
I don’t see my medical career and my adventures as opposites. They fuel each other.
Travel reminds me why life is worth protecting. Medicine reminds me not to waste it.
Adventure as a way of life
I’m drawn to places that challenge me — physically, mentally, and emotionally. From deserts and jungles to high-altitude mountains and polar landscapes, I seek experiences that push me beyond comfort and routine.
Ultrarunning became a natural extension of this mindset: long distances, extreme climates, and the mental resilience required to keep going when quitting would be easier. These experiences shape how I move through the world — with patience, grit, and a sense of wonder.
Photography & storytelling
I document my journeys through photography, video, and writing — not to romanticize travel, but to tell honest stories about movement, discomfort, beauty, and connection.
I’m especially interested in:
- remote and underrepresented destinations
- human stories along the way
- the contrast between modern life and traditional cultures
- the quiet moments that happen between the “big adventures”
My goal is to create cinematic, thoughtful storytelling that feels real — not staged.
Why this blog exists
This blog is a space where I bring everything together:
- medicine and humanity
- adventure and reflection
- ambition and vulnerability
I write for people who feel torn between multiple dreams. For those who don’t want to choose just one path. For anyone who believes that a meaningful life is built by curiosity, courage, and doing things a little differently.
If something here makes you feel inspired to explore, to challenge yourself, or to say yes to a life that feels fully yours — then this space has done its job.
Thanks for being here.
And welcome to the journey.
— Lotta
